Job Description

Job Title: Interim Pension Fund Accountant

Job Grade: Level 4 Zone 2

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Pension Fund Accountant to manage the complete accounting framework for a significant Pension Fund. With 22,000 members, this role demands strong financial management and accounting skills, with responsibilities for overseeing the Fund Account, Balance Sheet (Net Assets Statement), and cash flow. You will also prepare financial statements and manage the audit process.

The role involves frequent interaction with consultants, investment managers, and other professionals. You must be comfortable with complex financial information, from voting issues and carbon footprints to detailed performance analysis. Your ability to interpret and work with CIPFA codes of practice and accounting standards is crucial.

Responsibilities

Manage the income and expenditure for the pension fund.

Prepare quarterly reports for the Pension Committee and Pension Board.

Work with the Pension Shared Service to ensure accurate benefit administration.

Liaise with the Fund’s custodian, dealing with tax and financial market regulations.

Collaborate with external consultants and investment managers to ensure proper accounting and compliance.

Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to present complex financial information in an accessible manner.

About You

To be successful in this role, you should be a competent accountant with a keen eye for detail. Ideally, you are a qualified CCAB accountant or working toward this qualification. You will need strong written and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage high-volume transactions and work with complex financial requirements.

You should also be well-organized, self-managing, and able to conclude issues independently. Experience with writing reports for senior stakeholders and managing relationships with key personnel in finance is crucial.

Work Environment

This is primarily an office-based role but allows for remote work as all files and systems are online.

People Management Responsibilities

While there are no formal line management duties, you may occasionally manage apprentices, work experience participants, or trainee accountants.

Relationships

This role involves interaction with various stakeholders, including the Head of Treasury and Financial Services, the Director of Finance, other finance staff, and personnel from the Pension Shared Service.

Diversity & Inclusion

Our client values diversity and inclusion, welcoming applications from individuals of all backgrounds. They celebrate diversity and encourage applications from underrepresented groups, including those who identify as Black, Asian, or from other non-white ethnicities, as well as those who identify as LGBT+, neurodiverse, or disabled.

Agile Working

The organization values flexible working arrangements, focusing on performance rather than presenteeism. They encourage collaboration and innovative approaches to work.
