Job Title: Data Protection Officer
Location: Mold
Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer to provide expert advice and leadership to ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation. This role involves offering strategic guidance on data protection, handling information requests, managing complaints, and liaising with the Information Commissioner's Office. The successful candidate will report directly to the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) and the Chief Officer Team, serving as the Council's primary point of contact for all matters related to Data Protection, Freedom of Information, and Environmental Information Regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic advice on Data Protection legislation, ensuring the Council's compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Offer guidance on appropriate disclosure of personal information, particularly with the Police, other law-enforcement agencies, and recognized partners.
Handle requests for information, including Freedom of Information (FOI) and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR).
Manage complaints and coordinate with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) regarding FOI, EIR, and Data Protection matters.
Investigate and respond to personal data and security breaches, with full discretion to report to the ICO as needed.
Develop and monitor systems to ensure the Council maintains accurate records of personal data processing activities in compliance with Data Protection legislation.
Lead the development of policies, protocols, training, and guidance related to Information Compliance.
Manage the Council's Publication Scheme and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
Ensure that the Council has a compliant Information Asset Register.
Monitor and report on Information Compliance performance to the SIRO and the Chief Officer Team, highlighting any issues and recommending improvements.
Manage Information Compliance-related content on the Council’s website and internal intranet.
Represent the Council in regional and national working groups, project teams, and other forums to address Information Compliance issues.
Act as an impartial focal point for the public, addressing queries and complaints related to personal data.
Qualifications and Experience:
Extensive knowledge of Data Protection legislation, including the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Experience in managing and handling complex information compliance issues.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Ability to work independently and make critical decisions regarding information compliance.
Experience in managing relationships with regulatory bodies, such as the ICO.
Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to data protection.
